Some electrical problems can't wait until Monday morning. A burning smell from an outlet. Sparks when you plug something in. Power that went out in part of your home with no clear reason. These are situations where waiting is not the right move.

Carson Range Electric handles urgent electrical calls across the Carson Valley. When something feels wrong with your electrical system, call us.

When to call immediately

A burning or melting smell near any outlet, switch, or panel. Sparks or visible arcing from an outlet or breaker box. Outlets or switch covers that are hot to the touch. Breakers that trip immediately after being reset. Any sign of smoke near electrical components. Buzzing or crackling sounds from inside walls or the panel. Partial power loss that isn't explained by a tripped breaker.

If you see flames or smoke from your electrical panel or walls, get out of the house and call 911 first. Electrical fires move fast.

What happens on an emergency call

The electrician will assess what's going on and make the situation safe first. That might mean shutting off a circuit, isolating the problem, or in serious cases cutting power to part of the home. From there they'll diagnose the cause and walk you through what needs to happen next.

Sometimes it's a simple fix. Sometimes it's the beginning of a larger repair. Either way you'll know what you're dealing with and have a clear path forward.

Not sure if it's an emergency?

Call anyway. Describing what you're seeing or smelling takes two minutes. If it can wait, we'll tell you. If it can't, you'll be glad you called.

Electrical emergencies in older Carson Valley homes

A lot of the emergency calls we get come from older homes in Indian Hills, downtown Carson City, and the established neighborhoods in Gardnerville and Minden. Homes built in the 60s and 70s sometimes have wiring that was never designed for the electrical load they're carrying today. When those systems get pushed, the failures can be sudden and dramatic. A panel that trips everything at once, a burning smell with no obvious source, or outlets that spark under normal use are all signs that something in the system is past its limit.

Newer homes aren't immune either. Faulty breakers, damaged wiring from remodels, and GFCI failures can happen in any home. The important thing is not to keep resetting and hoping. If it happens more than once, call.

We serve Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, Dayton, Genoa, Indian Hills, Johnson Lane, Gardnerville Ranchos, Ruenstroth, Chichester Estates, Winhaven, Buckeye, Fish Springs, China Springs, Topaz, Topaz Ranch Estates, Centerville, and Stodick.
